Flight Attendant Trainee

If you’re passionate about helping others and energized by a fast-paced, purpose-driven role, we invite you to apply and join us in lighting up the skies.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Training for takeoff</strong></p><p>Your career starts with approximately seven weeks of immersive flight attendant training at our world-class headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. During training, you'll receive your base assignment and learn the safety procedures, customer service standards and operational skills needed to become a certified flight attendant.</p><p><br></p><p>While training is unpaid, American is committed to supporting you throughout your journey. Trainees receive single-occupancy hotel accommodations, three daily meals and access to on-campus amenities, including a fitness center, pool, trails and bike paths.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Important training information </strong></p><p><strong><em>Candidates selected through this requisition are expected to begin training in early 2027. </em></strong><em>Please apply only if you are able to fully commit to a training start date within this timeframe. </em></p><p><br></p><p><em>To promote fairness and consistency throughout the selection process, candidates are permitted to have only one (1) Flight Attendant application on file at any given time. Before submitting a new application, candidates must satisfy the applicable waiting period requirements.</em></p><p><br></p><p><strong>What you'll do</strong></p><p><strong>Lead with safety </strong></p><p>Safety is our highest priority. Flight attendants are responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company policies while maintaining a safe environment for customers and crew members.</p><ul><li>Conducting safety demonstrations and pre-flight safety checks</li><li>Responding effectively to onboard emergencies, medical situations and security concerns</li><li>Operating emergency equipment and assisting with evacuations when necessary</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Deliver elevated customer experiences</strong></p><p>Flight attendants create positive travel experiences by delivering genuine hospitality, personalized service and thoughtful support to passengers of all backgrounds throughout every stage of their journey.</p><ul><li>Welcoming and assisting customers from boarding through arrival</li><li>Anticipate needs, resolve concerns, and build customer loyalty through caring interactions</li><li>Serve food and beverages, including alcohol, in accordance with company standards</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Collaborate as one team </strong></p><p>Success depends on teamwork. Flight attendants work closely with fellow crew members to deliver safe, reliable and exceptional service.</p><ul><li>Demonstrate accountability, dependability and flexibility in a fast-paced operation</li><li>Communicating effectively during routine and irregular operations</li><li>Treating customers, colleagues and business partners with respect and professionalism</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>All you'll need for success</strong></p><ul><li>Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application</li><li>High school diploma or GED equivalent required</li><li>Minimum of two years of customer service experience in customer focused industries, or equivalent experience gained through relevant training or coursework.</li><li>Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport with applicable visas and documentation valid through at least Dec. 31, 2027.</li><li>Passport book must be in hand at the time of application; pending applications or renewals will not be accepted</li><li>Must have the legal right to work in the United States and ability to travel unrestricted to and from all states and countries that are served by American Airlines</li><li>Must be willing to relocate based on the company’s operational needs</li><li>Flight attendants are expected to maintain a professional appearance while representing the American Airlines brand and must comply with all uniform and grooming standards, including:</li><li>Hair should be neatly styled; if it falls below the shoulders, it must be secured</li><li>Facial hair must be at least ¼” inch but no more than 1” inch length and must be maintained in a clean, neat and well-groomed condition.</li><li>No visible tattoos or body art</li><li>No ear gauges or more than one (1) earring per ear lobe</li><li>No facial piercings or decorative dental embellishments</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Required skills and competencies </strong></p><p>Successful candidates demonstrate the following skills and abilities:</p><ul><li>Ability to read, write, speak and communicate fluently in English, including making public announcements and issuing emergency instructions.</li><li>Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable. Preferred language qualifications include: Cantonese, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish</li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to quickly build rapport and deliver exceptional customer service</li><li>Commitment to safety and the ability to perform all required safety procedures and emergency protocols</li><li>Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective while managing and assisting passengers and crew members during emergencies, medical situations, operational disruptions, and other high-pressure situations</li><li>Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and adaptability skills.</li><li>Demonstrated dependability, accountability, and reliable attendance</li><li>Positive attitude, self-motivation, and commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences</li><li>Ability to use electronic devices and company technology platforms, including tablets, mobile devices, and computers</li><li>Ability to operate aircraft safety and emergency equipment, including oxygen systems, aircraft doors, evacuation slides, fire extinguishers, life rafts, galley and communication systems</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Physical requirements </strong></p><p>Candidates must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation:</p><ul><li>Maneuver beverage carts requiring up to 60 pounds of push and pull force</li><li>Operate aircraft doors and emergency exits requiring up to 34 pounds of lifting force and up to 55 pounds of push/pull force</li><li>Reach and operate equipment located up to 64 inches above the floor</li><li>Sit in an assigned jumpseat and secure all required safety restraints without modifications or extenders</li><li>Move freely throughout the aircraft cabin and operate all emergency exits</li><li>Stand, walk, kneel, bend, squat, stretch, reach, lift and carry items throughout the duration of a flight</li><li>Lift and assist with customer baggage, including placing items in overhead storage compartments</li><li>Successfully complete all required safety drills and emergency evacuation exercises, including water evacuation training</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>What you'll get</strong></p><p>Our commitment to caring for customers begins with caring for the people who serve them.
