[Hiring] Editor/Writer I @Warner Bros Discovery

Role Description

Bleacher Report’s news desk is looking for a temporary writer/editor to assist with daily content production and editing. The candidate should have experience in sports media/journalism and will need excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with expertise in a range of sports. Night/weekend flexibility required to match sports-world coverage realities. Remote/hybrid OK, but preference given to NY/SF-based applicants. Work periods will range from spot daily shifts to 6-month backfill arrangements.

Job Responsibilities / Typical Day in the Role

  • Work with Assignment Editors/Writers to update existing news stories and to create new reports.
  • Create high-visibility pieces of content around sports' biggest events, on-field action and off-field issues.
  • Follow protocol to meet demands of deadline-driven operation that works closely with Bleacher Report's Programming and Editing departments to create clean, engaging, accurate and timely content.

Qualifications

  • Examples of previously published content.
  • Active and responsive communication skills.
  • Fluency in Sports knowledge.

Requirements

  • 1+ years; Portfolio or other examples of content published for Sports outlets.
  • 1+ years; We work in a deadline driven production environment.
  • 1+ years; Expert-level knowledge of one or a few priority leagues: NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, soccer, college football/basketball.

Nice to Have Skills / Preferred Requirements

  • None

Soft Skills

  • Strong knowledge of a wide variety of sports, with some in-depth specialties.
  • Ability to write about all aspects of sports on and off the field.
  • Ability to write quickly and cleanly, according to AP style.
  • Ability to navigate social media for newsworthy reactions to sports events.

Technology Requirements

  • Comfort in online publishing and word-processing systems.

  • None required.

  • 1st round with Deputy Editor.
  • 2nd round with Senior Editor.
