Sports Management Internship

About the role

This internship provides broad training across the operational and administrative areas of the Soccer Shots franchise in Overland Park. You will gain experience in program development, marketing, inventory control, and office management. The role is designed to offer insight into both the rewards and the rigors of an entry level position in sports management.

What you'll do

  • Lead coaching sessions, which make up about half of your time.
  • Support the Coaching Coordinator with verifying schedules and attendance.
  • Promote Soccer Shots seasons through marketing plans, public relations, and Free Fun Day demonstrations.
  • Manage inventory, distribute equipment, and handle facility set-up and breakdown.
  • Learn basic staff management and supervision by working with the Coaching Coordinator and Director.
  • Assist with seasonal coaches meetings.
  • Maintain a safe and encouraging environment for children during all sessions.
  • Act as a substitute coach when necessary.
  • Research and establish one or two new activities for the program.

What you'll need

  • You are currently seeking a degree in Sports Management, Athletic Management, Education, or Business.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A background in participating, planning, or working within a sports environment.
  • Previous experience working with youth and adults.
  • Ability to work with and understand the needs of a diverse population.
  • A reliable personal vehicle.
  • You must pass a background check, a TB test, and a sports physical.

Location & details

  • This position is located in Overland Park, KS.
  • The role is on-site and requires weekend work.
  • This is a paid internship offering a total of $3,600 for a 10-week period, based on 200 hours of work.
  • The schedule is rolling and typically requires 20 to 25 hours per week.
